Troubleshooting
When something is not working the way it should.
Copy the embed snippet from the Widget page in your dashboard and paste it just before the closing </body> tag on your site. It looks like this:
<script src="https://app.helpshelf.com/widget/YOUR_SITE_HASH.js" data-helpshelf-site="YOUR_SITE_HASH" async></script>
The launcher appears in the corner of your site within a second or two. Full instructions, including Google Tag Manager and common platforms, are in Install the widget.
Yes. From the Widget page you can set your primary and secondary colours, the launcher position (bottom-left or bottom-right), the panel title and greeting, and your logos.
Because the widget reads its configuration at runtime, changes reach your site without redeploying anything. You may need a hard refresh to clear your browser's cached copy of the script.
Custom logos and removing HelpShelf branding are available on paid plans. See Customizing the widget.
HelpShelf works alongside whatever you already use. Your agent answers what it can, and hands everything else to your existing support channel.
For live chat, connect Crisp, Freshchat, Help Scout, Groove, or Kayako by pasting one widget ID, or connect Intercom and Zendesk over OAuth. WhatsApp, SMS, and Facebook Messenger need only a number or page ID.
For content, import your existing articles from Freshdesk, Zendesk, or Intercom so your agent answers from knowledge you've already written.
See Connecting live chat and Contact options.
Your agent runs two searches at once and merges the results. Keyword search catches exact terms like error codes and product names; semantic search catches meaning, so "why was my card rejected" finds an article titled "Failed payments".
The two ranked lists are fused, then weighted by how much each piece of content can be trusted — hand-written articles rank above scanned pages, which rank above AI-generated drafts.
Every answer cites the articles it came from, and when nothing confident is found the agent says so rather than guessing. See How your agent finds answers.
HelpShelf has three plans: Free (a real free plan with monthly usage included — no credit card, no expiry), Pro ($49/month, 500 credits) and Scale ($149/month, 2,000 credits). Yearly billing saves around 20%.
A credit is consumed when your agent resolves a conversation with AI. Escalations to a human, spam and bot traffic, questions the agent couldn't answer, and replies held for review never consume credits.
There is no time-limited free trial — the Free plan is the trial, and it doesn't expire. Upgrade when you need more credits, more agents, or your branding removed; you can cancel a paid plan at any time. Overage isn't billed on any plan, so your plan price is the cap.
Plans also differ on how many agents, articles, team members, and integrations you get. See Plans and pricing for the full comparison, or How credits work.
