Most cruisers convert beautifully โ€” that upright, relaxed ride is a joy with a motor โ€” but cruisers have a few quirks worth knowing before you order.

  • American-style bottom brackets. Many cruisers use a wide American/OPC bottom bracket rather than a threaded sealed-cartridge shell. A mid-drive needs the threaded BSA/JIS type, so an American BB usually needs an adapter (available separately, or from a local bike shop) โ€” or you go with the front hub kit instead and skip the BB entirely.
  • Chainguards. Lots of cruisers have a chainguard. For a mid-drive it must be removable (bolted on), not welded to the frame โ€” the motor and chainring live right where the guard sits.
  • Battery mounting. Cruiser frames often have swoopy geometry and no water-bottle bosses. A rear-rack battery mount is usually the easiest path here.
Take the Fitment Quiz, and check Mid Drive vs. Front Hub and Battery Range to choose your setup.
