An ebike is a bigger investment than a standard bike, and the battery alone is worth protecting. A few habits go a long way:

  • Always lock your battery to the frame with its key before you leave the bike unattended. Better yet, pull the battery off and take it with you โ€” that removes the most valuable, most stealable, and most weather-sensitive part in one move.
  • Use a high-quality lock (a hardened U-lock or heavy chain), and lock the frame to something solid and immovable.
  • Lock in well-lit, visible areas when you can, and consider a second cable lock through the wheels.
  • Record your motor and battery serial numbers and snap a few photos of your build โ€” it helps enormously if you ever need to file a report or a warranty claim.
  • A hidden GPS tracker (in a bag or under the saddle) is cheap insurance for a bike you park in public regularly.
