HelpShelf

My help center isn't loading

Your help center URL returns a not-found page or looks empty.

You get a not-found page

The help center is disabled. It's controlled per site — if it's off, the URL returns not-found and nothing is publicly readable. Enable it under Help Center.

The site is inactive. An inactive site's help center isn't served.

Wrong slug. Check the exact URL under Help Center → Domain, which shows your real URL with a copy button. Your slug isn't always what you'd guess from your site name — if the name was taken, a number may have been appended.

It loads but looks empty

No published content. Only published articles in published collections appear. Check Content and confirm things are actually published.

Collections are unpublished. An unpublished collection is hidden even when the articles inside it are published. Those articles stay individually reachable and searchable, but nothing appears on the home page to browse.

Everything is crawled content. Pages picked up by the site scan inform your agent's answers but aren't listed as browsable articles. If your entire knowledge base came from a scan, the help center will look empty even though search works. Add or import some real articles.

An article 404s

The slug changed. Article URLs use the article's slug. Renaming a slug breaks existing links — the old URL stops working. Avoid renaming slugs on articles you've linked to elsewhere.

It was unpublished. Unpublishing removes it from the help center immediately.

Styling looks wrong

Check your design settings in both light and dark mode. A primary colour with good contrast on white can become unreadable on a dark background, and visitors have a theme toggle.

AI assistants say they can't access it

The URL loads for you but an assistant reports it can't reach your docs. That's usually a crawler policy problem upstream — see Making your docs readable by AI. Run npx helpshelf score to check from the outside.
