Import your Intercom Articles into HelpShelf, where they arrive as curated content — the highest trust tier.
What you need
An Intercom access token.
Creating an access token
- Go to the Intercom Developer Hub and sign in.
- Open Your apps and select an app, or create a new one for your workspace.
- Under Authentication, copy the access token.
- Make sure the app has read permission for Articles.
Run the import
- In HelpShelf, go to Content and click Import.
- Choose Intercom.
- Paste your access token and connect.
- HelpShelf fetches your collections and articles.
- Select what you want and start the import.
What gets imported
- Intercom collections become HelpShelf collections.
- Intercom articles become HelpShelf articles, tagged as curated.
- Only published articles are imported. Drafts are skipped.
Intercom stores article bodies as a series of content blocks. These are converted to clean HTML on import, keeping headings, lists, code blocks, tables, and images.
Embeddings are generated automatically.
Re-importing
Re-running the import updates articles you've already imported rather than duplicating them, matched on the Intercom article ID. Local edits to an imported article are overwritten on re-import.
Multiple languages
The import brings across the default language version of each article. If you run a multilingual help center, only the default locale is imported.
Intercom Messenger is separate
This imports content. Letting visitors open the Intercom Messenger from HelpShelf is a separate OAuth connection — see Connecting Intercom and Zendesk chat.
