Organizing content with collections

Collections group your articles into browsable categories in the help center and the widget.

Collections are the categories of your help center — "Getting started", "Billing", "Troubleshooting". Each article belongs to at most one.

Creating a collection

From Content, create a collection with:

  • Title — what visitors see, e.g. "Billing & plans"
  • Slug — the URL segment, e.g. billing
  • Description — a line of context shown under the title
  • Icon — an optional icon for the collection card
  • Sort order — lower numbers appear first

How collections are used

On your help center, published collections appear as cards on the home page, and each has its own page listing its articles at /{collection-slug}.

In the widget, collections give visitors something to browse when they'd rather look around than search.

For search, collections have no effect on ranking. An article is equally findable whether or not it's in a collection.

Publishing

Collections have their own published flag. An unpublished collection is hidden from the help center even if the articles inside it are published — those articles remain individually reachable and searchable.

How many to use

Aim for five to eight top-level collections. Visitors scan them, and a wall of twenty categories is harder to use than a good search box.

Order them by how often they're needed, not alphabetically. "Getting started" first, "Legal" last.

Plan limits

The number of collections per site depends on your plan — 5 on Free, 20 on Pro, unlimited on Scale. See Plans and credits.
